These are the mystery garlics that have found their way to our farm. Some were gifts from world-travelling friends which have been adapted to our climate and others came to us wrongly classified but were kept for their beauty and vigour. We offer them to you, to enjoy for for special characteristics independent of a reliable story of origin.
Legacy was reportedly found growing wild on a farm near Blyth, Ontario and came to us classified as a Rocambole. We find it has more characteristics in common with a purple stripe. Nonetheless it is a beautiful garlic with more than enough heat for most palates.
Several garlic varieties in Canada have been given the name “Russian Red.” Ours came to us classified as a Rocambole but in fact presents characteristics more congruent with those of a standard purple stripe trending towards a porcelain. Russian Red has a strong garlic flavour and is quite hot when eaten raw.
